Corporate Profile

Business Premises Redpath's Beekeeping Supplies is a family business started by Norman and Beryl Redpath in 1964 and still operated today by Alan, Gordon and Karen Redpath.
During the early 1960's Norm discovered his passion for keeping bees, eventually operating up to 300 hives in conjunction with the grocery business he had run since the 1950's in East Malvern a suburb of Melbourne.
With the coming of supermarket chains during the late fifty's and early sixties the small grocer couldn't survive. Norm saw an opportunity existed for a supplier of honey in the metropolitan area of Melbourne. Show Room Interior
He started suppling many wholesale and retail outlets with pure varietal line honey. Later as his need for beekeeping equipment increased, he realised there also existed a need for a supplier of equipment who actually knew how to keep bees and was aware of what piece of equipment was needed for which particular job.

Also during the late 1980's we purchased a foundation production plant, a "Weed Process" type plant, invented by Mr. E B Weed during the 1860's. Our foundation is sold by our selected agents throughout Australia and we have exported it to one of the most fastidious markets, Japan.

Norm realised very early in his beekeeping career that a strong industry association was essential to all beekeepers in Victoria and joined the Victorian Apiarists Association rising to state executive level and vice president of that organisation before his untimely death, Gordon and Alan continue to be members of the VAA, with Gordon recently steeping down from 10 years service at state executive as well, The VAA does provides great service to beekeepers, large and small and it is our commitment to continue to support its efforts to educate beekeepers and Governments in the ways of the bee.
